A man has been taken to hospital after driving into a bush in a quiet Hampshire road.
Residents of Medlicott Way in Swanmore were shocked when three police cars and an ambulance were seen outside at 10 o’clock yesterday morning (October 10).
A 78-year-old man drove his Peugeot off the road and onto the green area between Medlicott Way and Martin Close.
A resident, who was at home at the time of the accident, said: “If the car had not been stopped by the bushes, it would have landed right on our driveway, or worse come through our wall.
“Thankfully there is a fence between the bush and the side of our driveway but I dread to think what might have happened if it wasn’t there.
“This is a quiet area so to have a large number of police vehicles and an ambulance was a real shock for me and many of my neighbours.
“It took a long time to get the incident cleared and there was debris all over the green. Even now there is still a lot of pieces of the car over the green which need to be removed.
“There are many young families and elderly people here so I do hope this will be an isolated incident.
“I hope the man in the car is safe and well.”
The man was taken to hospital in a serious condition. The cause of the accident remains unclear.
A spokesperson for Hampshire police said: “Police were called at 11.19am on Monday, 9 October to reports of a single vehicle collision on Medlicott Way, Swanmore.
“The vehicle, a Peugeot 3008, had been involved in a collision with a tree.
“The driver, a 78-year-old man, was taken to hospital in a serious condition.”
