A new burger place serving bespoke orders has opened for business in Southampton.

BurgerLAB in Burgess Road, Bassett allows customers to create their own burgers by choosing from a range of toppings, sauces and sizes.

Owners Liam Read, 26, from Fareham and Jack Dunford, 26, from Bitterne said they had dreamed of running their own burger place since their first part time jobs in restaurant kitchens.

Liam said: “Our draw is that you can create your own personalised burger for a very reasonable price.

“Our most popular burger by far has been the double cheeseburger – an absolute classic choice that everyone can enjoy.

“We have tried to make our burgers as affordable as possible without compromising the quality and taste – this was very important to us given the cost-of-living crisis.”

A single patty cheese burger at BurgerLAB costs just £6.45.

Customers can choose between one and three meat patties, and a range of toppings including salad, bacon, chilli cheese bites, jalapenos, pickles, mushrooms and others.

BurgerLAB also has its own range of desserts including cookie pies and brownie bars.

Jack added: “All of our desserts are freshly made in house. With the venue being an old bakery we have put the remaining facilities to good use to create some delicious desserts.

“The Kinder Nutella cookie pie has gone down an absolute treat with customers.

“They have really taken off. In our first week of being open we have sold out.”

Liam said the landlord of the building is a close friend of his family and has been very supportive.

He said: “He used to run the Crusty bakery that occupied this site before we moved in which, unfortunately, did not survive the pandemic.

“We have been working with really limited funding and we are so grateful to all our family and friends that have helped to make the opening of this venue possible.

“They know how passionate we have been about doing this.”

The pair have been working in kitchens since they were 15.

They opened their new restaurant on Monday October 9.
