A gunman fired shots at a second man before they fled the scene in their cars, according to police.

They were called shortly after 1.30pm to reports that a man had been seen holding a firearm on Middle Road - close by to Oasis Academy Sholing.

Members of the public reported that the man fired the weapon at another man, before they both got into their respective cars and drove away.

Police believe the man are known to each other, and no-one has been reported as injured.

The area was quickly filled with police - including armed officers - who were searching for the gunman, shortly before children were due to leave school.

The incident has caused concern throughout the community, with residents telling the Echo they were worried about leaving their homes and the academy's principal calling what happened 'unprecedented'.

While police collect evidence, road closures are in place on Middle Road, Deacon Road, Spring Road and Heath Road.

More officers will be carrying out house to house enquiries and on patrol - with a force spokesperson telling the public to speak to them if they see them and have any concerns.
