Founded back in 2013, Summer Sessions has become a much-loved and highly anticipated live music series in Scotland with events taking place across the country, including Glasgow and Edinburgh. Renowned for regularly showcasing a diverse roster of talent, previous headliners include Eminem, Foo Fighters, Kendrick Lamar, Florence + The Machine and David Guetta.
Its arrival in Southampton next summer is amongst the first Summer Sessions events to be announced outside of Scotland, alongside events at Bedford Park in Bedfordshire.
The Southampton shows will take place throughout the month of June, seeing Guildhall Square transformed into a destination for world-leading live acts and music fans alike.
Nile Rodgers & CHIC will play on Sunday June 23. Nile Rodgers is a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee and a multiple Grammy Award-winning songwriter, composer, producer, arranger, and guitarist.
As the co-founder of CHIC, he generated chart-topping hits like Le Freak, and sparked the advent of hip-hop with Good Times and Rapper's Delight.
Nile Rodgers said: “The UK is my home from home so despite the fact that it’s not even winter yet I’m excited to be announcing that we will be bringing you ‘good times” this summer!”
They will be joined by chart-topping pop star Sophie Ellis-Bextor with her glossy, disco-infused dance hits. Fans can expect to enjoy Murder on the Dancefloor and more. Rising stars Deco will also join the party.
“The runaway success of Summer Sessions in Scotland has proven the event is one which resonates with music fans and artists alike whilst also bringing many economic benefits to their host cities,” added Peter Taylor, co-founder, Cuffe & Taylor. “We can’t wait to bring world-class music acts to Southampton’s Guildhall Square next summer, further cementing the city’s status as an important and pioneering hub for music, culture and entertainment."
