Police are on the hunt for a wanted man who is likely to be in Southampton.

George Barry Leonard Ashley, 35, is wanted in connection with an assault causing actual bodily harm, non-fatal strangulation and criminal damage, which happened in Blackfield on Wednesday 6 September, police said.

The force believes Ashley is currently living in the Southampton area. He also has links to Blackfield, near Fawley.

A spokesman said: "Officers have followed various lines of enquiry to locate him and we are now turning to the public for assistance.

"Ashley is described as being approximately 5ft 8ins tall, medium build, with brown hair and brown eyes. He also has tattoos on his arms and the right-hand side of his neck. The neck tattoo reads, ‘Mum And Dad Born 1969’.

"If you have seen him, or have any information regarding his whereabouts, please contact us on 101, quoting incident number 44230361683.

"Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111, or via their anonymous online form.

"Anyone found to be harbouring Ashley, in order to deliberately obstruct our attempts to locate him, may be committing an offence and be liable for arrest themselves."
