A shoplifter has been jailed after targeting the same retailer twice in less than ten hours.
Ashley Joseph Brown, 40, of Dinham Road, New Milton, was sentenced at Southampton Magistrates’ Court for two offences committed at the Tesco Superstore in Caird Avenue, New Milton.
On September 14 Brown entered the shop just before 10pm and picked up a fleece and a pair of jogging bottoms together valued at £67.50. He put the items on over his clothing and left without paying.
For that offence, he was jailed for ten weeks and ordered to pay a £154 victim services surcharge.
At 7.30am the next day Brown returned to the store and stole four boxes of Lego together valued at £195. For that offence, he received another ten-week sentence to run concurrently with the first.
A police spokesperson said: "Retail crime is one of the force’s current priorities and we will continue to support that by robustly dealing with shoplifters."
