Former British Gas offices have been converted into temporary housing accommodation.
The redevelopment of Bampton House in Chandler’s Ford began in January this year.
Now completed, 13 new homes have been created, providing specialist temporary housing.
Councillor Paul Bicknell, lead for regeneration, said: “This is a very exciting council project transforming the building into high quality self-contained flats.
“It enables local people to remain in the Borough and allows easier access to the services in Eastleigh needed to get support in securing a permanent home.”
The scheme was funded and developed by Eastleigh Borough Council with grant funding of £779,000 from Homes England.
It comes after plans were approved in August 2021 to turn the building into 15 new apartments.
Cllr Bicknell said: “The scheme, which was funded and developed by the council, will deliver much needed specialist accommodation to tackle both housing issues and address the ongoing cost of living crisis.
“It will also help reduce expenditure by the Council on emergency accommodation such as bed and breakfast. “This is a great example of where local councils can be part of the solution in addressing housing need, something we are keen to be going forward.”
Each flat benefits from an open plan living room, kitchen and diner along with bathroom and bedroom.
Flats are equipped with electric boiler heating, built in oven and hob, wifi, parking, and amenities within walking distance and excellent transport links Harriet Powell from Homes England said, “As the government’s housing and regeneration agency, increasing the supply of quality affordable homes remains one of our key objectives and we are committed to supporting ambitious housebuilders of all sizes to build those homes and communities.
“This investment through the Affordable Homes Programme does just that, enabling Eastleigh Borough Council to build 13 much needed new homes the people of Eastleigh can be proud of.”
