A road closure in Hedge End which is set to last until April caused tailbacks this morning.
Charles Watts Way is closed eastbound as works to repair a landslip along the embankment continue.
The 14-week closure means traffic is diverted through Kanes Hill A27 to Junction 8 of the M27, with a separate diversion route for non-motorway traffic.
Wednesday morning saw 15-minute delays eastbound on Kanes Hill and West End Road between Kanes Hill Roundabout and Windhover Roundabout.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Hampshire County Council Highways said: “Due to major works for land slip repairs along the embankment at Charles Watts Way, increased delays are expected in the area.”
Speaking on the road works when they were first announced, the council’s Executive Lead Member for Universal Services, Cllr Nick Adams-King, said: “This issue needs to be fixed now to ensure this busy route can remain useable for the longer term.
“I recognise that this complex repair will cause some disruption in the run up to the busy Christmas period, but this work is essential to keep the road safe.”
The closure has been in place since November 27.
