This week I had the pleasure of sampling some of the food from the new Kwackers sports bar at Westquay.
The bar opened on Friday, December 8 - so I thought it would be rude not to sample some of their signature duck dishes.
With Southampton being a hotspot for footy fans and university students, this sports bar is perfectly placed in the heart of the city for bite of duck and a beer.
Kwackers started out with a food truck serving festival-goers at Boomtown, Rewind Festival and Glastonbury before eventually opening a restaurant in Westquay's food hall in 2020.
Their latest venture, the new sports bar, has lead to the team increasing their signature menu, including adding new delights such as the double patty smash burger.
I started with two delicious appetisers: the vegetable spring rolls and the panko king prawns, both of which were priced very reasonably, at £4.95 and £6.95 respectively.
The hot spring rolls were steamy and full of amazing flavour – the perfect small bites to enjoy with a pint before filling up on the main course.
Similarly tasty were the prawns, both of which were served with a spicy sweet chilli sauce for dipping.
And, of course, everything tastes better when it is deep fried and covered in crispy panko.
While waiting for the main, I had some time to appreciate the newly designed sports bar interior.
The Kwackers team has worked hard to create an open and high energy venue – with a spacious interior with plenty of tables and TVs to catch all your sports favourites.
For the mains, I sampled the katsu curry and their brand new double smashed duck burger.
The smash burger was a real breath of fresh air compared to the usual beef patty.
Kwackers has proved it truly is the undisputed king of duck burgers – the meat was rich and tender I would recommend anyone that gets the chance to have a try.
The katsu curry was similarly delicious with the rice soaking up the amazing flavours from the curry sauce.
All in all, an excellent experience.
