The following shoplifting cases have been heard at Southampton Magistrates' Court...

LEIGH ARMSDEN, 48, of Forster Road, Southampton pleaded guilty to theft from a shop after six bottles of wine were stolen from Southern Co-Op in Southampton. The total value of the wine was £48.75. Armsden was fined £50 and was excluded from entering any Co-Op store. 

HENOK BEYENE, 38, of Cottenham Road, Worthing pleaded guilty to three counts of theft from a shop after three separate incidents at John Lewis in West Quay, Southampton. Stock worth a total of £439 was taken. Beyene was granted conditional bail to appear at the same court on January 26 for sentencing.

JAMES STEELE, 33, of Granville Place, Winchester admitted theft from a shop after he stole cases of Fosters worth £166.46 from Co-Op on Foundry Lane, Southampton. He was given a 161-day conditional discharge and must pay £55.48 worth of compensation. 

KARL FAWCETT, 41, of Cuckmere Lane, Southampton pleaded guilty to five counts of theft from a shop and one of failing or refusing to provide a sample for a Class A drug test. The thefts all relate to separate incidents at Co-Op in Southampton. Meat, wine and beer worth £235.05 were stolen with all of the offences taking place in December this year. Fawcett was granted conditional bail to appear at the same court on January 17 for sentencing. He has been excluded from every Co-Op store as a condition of his bail. 

BRIAN STUART, 49, of Lindoe Close, Southampton admitted theft from a shop after a blueberry muffin, a pack of strawberries and raspberries, a bottle of Remy Martin V.S.O.P and a bottle of Courvoisier was stolen from Waitrose in Southampton. Stuart was given a 12-month conditional discharge and must pay court costs of £85 plus a £26 surcharge.
