Fareham Borough Council is warning residents that Osborn Road Multi Storey car park is closed ahead of its scheduled demolition.

The car park has been shut to allow the relocation of the current team and equipment prior to the handover to the site’s developers Neilcott Construction Ltd.

Council leader Sean Woodward said: “I am delighted that the work is about to begin to replace the underused and outdated Osborn Road multi-storey car park with the new Fareham Live surface car park.

“Fareham Shopping Centre multi-storey car park is an excellent alternative for town centre parking while the work is taking place, with plenty of disabled spaces available.

“It also provides an easy route into the shopping centre itself, where Shopmobility can be found for anyone who requires their services.”

Once demolished on January 8, the car park will be later replaced by a surface car park with larger spaces and four electric charging points.

There is capacity to add a further 12 electric vehicle charging points if required.

This new Fareham Live car park will be open in 2024 in time for the first large performances at the new arts and entertainment venue of the same name.

Cllr Woodward added : “I would remind residents that our town centre car parks provide more than 1,000 car parking spaces within walking distance of the shopping centre, and the number of spaces will increase significantly once the new Fareham Live car park is complete.”

The council is reminding drivers that alternative parking can be found nearby at Fareham Shopping Centre multi-storey car park, which leads directly into the shopping centre.

For those who need help to be independently mobile in the town centre, Shopmobility can be found within the shopping centre, offering mobility equipment for hire.
