Burger restaurants, a chicken takeaway and a popular dessert parlour are among five Southampton eateries that have been shortlisted for the Deliveroo awards.

On January 8, UK takeaway delivery service, Deliveroo, announced the return of its Restaurant Awards - celebrating the most loved and renowned restaurants in all local areas – including Southampton.

Five Southampton venues have found their way onto the nominee list, and voting for the awards is now open via the Deliveroo Restaurant Awards website.

Will Shu, CEO and Founder of Deliveroo, said: “This year’s awards are bigger and better than ever.

“The Restaurant Awards are designed to give our customers the chance to champion and celebrate the wealth of great food right on their doorstep - so get voting to see your favourite spots snap up the titles.”

Best Dessert – Sprinkles Southampton

Sprinkles is a family-run business started by three brothers who are passionate about desserts.

Opening the doors of its Above Bar Street branch in 2012, Sprinkles serves incredible homemade gelato and desserts, including waffles, crepes, cakes, and cupcakes.

Best Chicken - Chikn Shack 

Chikn Shack is a fried chicken joint on Shirley Road in Southampton, serving a wide range of chicken-based dishes, including salads, wraps, burgers, loaded boxes and sharing platters.

Best Burger & American - Nathan’s Famous 

Before travelling across the pond to the UK, Nathan’s Famous was founded in 1916 in New York.

The Southampton site on Mayfield Road serves everything from burgers and chicken sandwiches to hot dogs. A new plant-based menu has also launched recently.

This Southampton burger joint was opened by second-year University of Southampton student, Yaqub Ahmed, who decided to take on the venture alongside his Business Management studies.

BURGA, on Portswood Road, serves handmade 100% British beef ‘burgaz’ cooked fresh to order, with lots of interesting toppings and sides.

Best Japanese – Coishi 

Coishi is a Japanese-Chinese restaurant on Above Bar Street serving daily handmade fresh bento and sushi, plus refreshing bubble tea brewed.

It is tipped as one of Southampton's local favourites with deliciously modern comfort food.
