Local bobbies are back on the streets of Southampton in a scheme aimed at strengthening officers' relationship with members of the public.

Each bobby has a specific area to patrol. Their name, phone number and email address are publicly available so residents can get in touch directly.

Although they will respond to and investigate crime, they will not be responsible for every crime that happens in their community.

People should still call 101 or 999 in an emergency. 

A total of 99 bobbies are in place across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

Like other officers, they will patrol on foot or using bikes or cars and may carry tasers.

They will be in post for a minimum of two years.
