A “coercive and manipulative” teacher left his student feeling “afraid” and “trapped in her body” after performing a sex act on her, a jury has heard.
The trial of Peter Morse at Southampton Crown Court was told how the 51-year-old former Bitterne Park School teacher is alleged to have acted inappropriately with a 16-year-old pupil on multiple occasions.
Prosecutor Rose Burns said Morse of Providence Park, Southampton had taken the pupil had taken her clothes off before stripping himself and performing multiple sex acts on her.
She later said she had a crush on her teacher for some time before this but it was her first sexual encounter and she felt “trapped in her body” and was left feeling “uncomfortable”.
The prosecutor said the girl “felt afraid” at the time. Morse was in his mid-20s.
The student said Morse had acted “coercive or manipulative” in another incident when he attempted to engage in oral sex.
During another incident, he kissed her, the jury was told. He previously told her that kissing was the most intimate thing you could do, the court heard.
The student also received texts from Morse of a sexual nature which Ms Burns said was “deeply unsuitable for a teacher to send to a pupil”.
During a separate incident, Morse allegedly stripped down to a “tiny jock strap” with the girl in the room.
Morse denies two counts of engaging in sexual activity while in a position of trust.
The jury was told the girl “tried lots of methods to rid herself of him” after the incidents.
Ms Burns added that in May 2017 “she felt she had to look him in the eye in order to break that specific memory” and went to a coffee shop in Southampton to meet him.
Ms Burns said: “He just said he was probably oblivious to the damage he did. She was just another woman that he had had a fling with.”
She went to the police in October 2020.
The woman said she previously made calls to Childline but nothing was done up to that point.
The prosecution described the sexual acts as “callous, uncaring and brief”, adding: “The effect on the then 16-year-old [girl] has lived with her until today.”
The trial continues.
