A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a woman was found with serious injuries.
The 46-year-old from Southampton is being questioned in custody over the attack in the early hours of this morning.
The victim, a woman in her 50s, has since been taken to hospital with a serious injury to her arm.
It comes after police were called to an altercation inside an address in Hill Lane at 4.45am.
A police spokesperson said: "We were called at 4.45am this morning (Tuesday 30 January) to reports of an altercation taking place inside an address on Hill Lane, Southampton.
"Officers attended and located a woman in her 50s a short time later with a serious injury to her arm. She has been taken to hospital for treatment.
"A 46-year-old man from Southampton has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody.
"Police remain at the scene this morning conducting enquiries.
"At the current time we do not believe there to be any wider risk to the public."
As part of the investigation, officers cordoned off a car in Cracknore Road, Freemantle earlier this morning.
The black Vauxhall Corsa was parked outside the Key & Anchor but has since been towed away.
A resident said: “From what I remember the police were there since 8 o’clock this morning when I got up.
“They have only closed off the area around the car so it seems something happened involving it.”
There is a heavy police presence on Milton Road and Hill Lane with patrol cars driving past the area on a regular basis and officers from the Criminal Investigation Department at the scene.
