People have reacted with shock after police launched an attempted murder investigation following a woman being seriously injured.
The woman, in her 50s, was found with a seriously injured arm when police were called to an altercation in Hill Lane in Southampton at 4.45am on Tuesday.

Officers also cordoned off a black Vauxhall Corsa outside the Key & Anchor on Cracknore Road, Freemantle. It was later towed away.
Police have been in nearby Milton Road, and in Hill Lane, for much of Tuesday.
One woman, who has lived in the block of flats on Milton Road for 10 years, said: “I opened my blind at just after 7 this morning - there were a few police cars.
"I then saw several police officers coming in so I went down and just as you get out the lift and turn left on the ground floor the police taped it off.”
She added: “This place used to be lovely there are so many vulnerable and elderly people here.”
Another resident told the Echo: “Not even safe in your own home anymore. I hope the lady will be okay.”
Another added: “I work just around the corner. Way too many crimes like this are happening lately.”
Questions remain as to where the woman was found.
The connection between the victim and the attempted murder suspect has not been revealed.
A spokesperson from Hampshire Constabulary said: “We were called at 4.45am (on Tuesday) to reports of an altercation taking place inside an address on Hill Lane, Southampton.
"Officers attended and located a woman in her 50s a short time later with a serious injury to her arm. She has been taken to hospital for treatment.
"A 46-year-old man from Southampton has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody.
"Police remain at the scene this morning conducting enquiries.
"At the current time we do not believe there to be any wider risk to the public."
