Pensioners living on a ‘quiet’ road in Eastleigh have had their peace shattered by lorries.
Married couple Alvina and Cliff Allen say the once peaceful Tennyson Road is now ‘like Piccadilly Circus’.
The influx of vans and lorries comes as a new art building is being built at neighbouring Barton Peveril College.
Work is expected to finish by the upcoming summer holidays – but completion cannot come soon enough for Alvina and Cliff.
Alvina, 79, said: “It’s not the college’s fault, but the state of the road is awful.
“There is mud flying everywhere and gravel has ruined the drains.
“In July it will be 10 years since we moved here, and we have had building works happening ever since.
“It was quiet here when we first moved in but the workmen just don’t care.
“It’s Piccadilly Circus out here.”

The pair have no issue with the construction work being undertaken at the college.
But they have concerns about the number of large vehicles being parked in what is a permit-only road, and the mess left behind.
Cliff, 80, said: “We were told the vehicles would not be parked outside our house and they would not be on this road.
“One time, they attempted to have three lorries down here pumping cement out. That is the problem.
“We’ve also had scaffolding lorries parked in front of our driveway. Sooner or later, someone is going to be injured.”
Alvina added: “We are getting fed up because they unload materials in the middle of the road.
“The lorries are right under our noses. This is getting us down.”
Chris Loveday, vice principal of Barton Peveril College, said he is continually working with Amiri to address residents' issues and concerns.
He said: “We fully understand the frustration that the residents of Tennyson Road are experiencing and together with Amiri we are doing all we can to manage traffic on the highway, however as it is a public highway, we have no jurisdiction.
“When the issue of mud and debris on the highway was raised last week, we swiftly acted in partnership with Amiri to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.
“Amiri is now monitoring the cleanliness of the highway and will address any issues as they arise.”
Amiri Construction was approached for a comment but did not respond.
