A woman has been left with blisters after an unknown substance was thrown at her in a pub.

The victim, aged 52, was at The Golden Lion Pub on Saturday when she had a substance thrown in her hair and on her back.

This caused a burning sensation to her skin and for her hair to matt.

Officers investigating the incident are working to establish what the substance was – but it is not thought to be acid.

The incident happened between 9.30pm and 10pm at the Basingstoke watering hole.

The woman did not need hospital treatment.

Two men aged 48 and 53, both from Basingstoke, have been arrested on suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm with intent.

The pair have been released on bail until May 10.
