Hampshire police has given an update on its investigation of a flat fire that resulted in a woman being taken to hospital.

A fire broke out on a second floor flat at Polymond House, Castle Way, causing the building to be evacuated by fire crews who were at the scene shortly after residents reported smelling smoke from within the block.

Following police and ambulance crews attending, a woman from the building was rescued from the blaze, where ‘firefighters provided medical care before passing the casualty into the hands of South Central Ambulance Service paramedics.’

Police then began their own investigation into what happened.

Three days on from the incident, when approached for a comment, a spokesperson for Hampshire Police confirmed that ‘no arrests have been made' and that they had now closed their investigation.

Speaking to the Echo on the day of the incident, Simon Rolfe, a resident of Polymond House, said: “A neighbour came to my door and said that a flat on the second floor was on fire. I hope whoever was inside is okay."
