Eastleigh Library is to be temporarily closed.
The building has been judged to not be fit for purpose after years of not being upgraded.
Hampshire County Council will close Eastleigh Library to make urgent refurbishments that will include the children’s area being redecorated and upgraded, changes to the workroom, and an adjustment to the layout of the adult library.
The layout of The Swan Centre library will also be reconfigured to create more space for children’s activities and to create more space for adult groups and events.
The county council said that the library has not had a major review of its layout for many years, no longer meets current and future demands of library users, and some of its furniture urgently needs replacement and upgrade.
During the closure, visitors are being told to visit Chandler's Ford, Hedge End, Bishops Waltham and Winchester libraries instead.
Eastleigh Library will be closed for general visitors from Thursday, March 7 to Tuesday, March 12 inclusive.
