A man has been arrested after a woman was rushed to hospital with 'serious injuries' after being hit by a car at a Southampton junction.
Emergency services rushed to the scene of the collision involving a car and a pedestrian shortly after 1pm on Romsey Road at the junction with Wimpson Lane.
The Air Ambulance, carrying one doctor and two specialist paramedics, was also sent to assist in the response.
The woman, in her 20s, was rushed to hospital by road, assisted by air ambulance crew.
Officers cordoned off the junction and only drivers coming from Wimpson Lane can turn right unto Romsey Road and the other way around,
Police have also now arrested a 23-year-old man from Southampton on suspicion of driving under the influence and causing serious injury by careless driving. He remains in custody at the current time.
Resident Sally Rose told the Echo she heard the helicopter and wondered what had happened.
Concering the incident and the traffic on the road, she said: "This road is a nightmare. People are always tooting and honking at each other. Something needs to be looked at."
