A man has spoken of his shock after witnessing football fans allegedly attack a child.
The man said he was leaving the Southampton FC v Millwall game on Saturday afternoon when he saw the scene unfold.
The Saints fan said the incident on Britannia Road was ‘crazy’.
He said: “The Millwall fans were possessed and intent on trouble.
“I saw a father protecting his child and three or four Millwall fans attacking the child.
“I feared for my safety so I left the scene.”
Officers from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary were called to the roads surrounding St Mary’s Stadium after the match.
This followed reports of low-level disorder but this was de-escalated and managed by police in attendance.
There was a large police presence in Southampton on the day. Some Millwall fans caused trouble inside the ground, breaching the barrier in the stands.
