Tenpin Southampton has been praised for its ‘amazing transformation’ by bowling fans after unveiling a brand-new look.
This comes after the bowling alley – which has been a hub for the local community in Auckland Road for more than 30 years – was saved from closure last year.
Civic chiefs had approved plans to turn the site into a builders’ merchant but the owners of the Tenpin changed their minds.
A petition with more than 100 signatures helped save the facility, allowing Tenpin to transform the 36-lane bowling alley – adding the likes of a soft play area, an indoor mini-golf facility, and an arcade area.
Reacting to the news of the refurbishment on social media, many residents – who have already sampled what the site has to offer – praised the new-look space.

Paul Gale commented: “Went recently and the transformation was amazing.
“It was packed which goes to prove it was foolish to even suggest closing it down.”
While Lisa Mitchener added: “We went last night, and the progress so far is amazing.”
General manager of Tenpin Southampton, Daniel Draper noted the site’s importance to the local community in Millbrook and was keen to ensure it has ‘something for everyone.’
He said: We are truly proud of Tenpin’s transformation in Southampton, and the team is immensely excited to showcase the wide range of exciting activities that cater to customers of all ages.”
Sally Frampton echoed the thoughts of Tenpin’s general manager, as she said: “It’s really great and so much cheaper than Hollywood Bowl.”
“They’ve done a great job with this, it looks really good,” added Dave Patrick.
Adding to the list of rave reviews on Facebook, Karen Slim Taylor said: “We’re in there every week, my daughter’s hooked! Everything is fabulous in there.
“The great thing about it is that they let you bring in your own food and drink as well.”
Kat Annells praised the facility’s soft play area, saying it sounded ‘excellent,’ as Lisa Geraghty noted ‘can’t wait for a visit.’
Following the refurbishment, Tenpin Southampton will be pleased to find they have a growing list of customers as Marta Rowe commented: “We need to try it,” with Jen Tarrant adding: “It’s an amazing price.”
