Harbour bosses are investigating reports that a dead shark was washed ashore at the base of a public slipway.
Lymington Harbour Commissioners have carried out a search of the area and are planning to take another look later today.
Harbourmaster Ryan Willegers said: "We received a two or three-line email from a member of the public yesterday evening.
"It said there was a dead shark about 6ft long at the foot of the slipway.
"We went down there and took a good look around but couldn't see any trace. We take another look at low water."
