Kingsbridge is set to launch its 'greenest ever' industrial scheme, Ferne Park, at the former Chartwell Court in Segensworth.

The commercial property developer has been granted planning consent for the 'highly-sustainable' warehouse and logistics development, located near Southampton.

Fareham Borough Council has approved the Ferne Park plans, encompassing three units totalling 106,688 square feet, with the venture hoping to transform the previously disused Chartwell Court site back into a productive employment hub.

The naming of the site as Ferne Park is a nod to Fareham's past as a Saxon village once known as Ferne Ham. Kingsbridge's ambition is to garner a top-tier 'Outstanding' BREEAM rating, which evaluates the environmental impact of commercial premises.

If successful, Ferne Park could rank among the top three per cent of BREEAM-certified industrial developments on a national scale. Kingsbridge, in collaboration with a joint venture partner, is also advocating for a net zero embodied carbon for the scheme.

Further driving sustainability, the site will strive to attain an A-rated Energy Performance Certificate and a Biodiversity Net Gain at 25 per cent for the development- more than double the local authority's 10 per cent requirement.

Each unit at Ferne Park will be equipped with roof-top solar panel arrays promoting green energy, and access to private yards boasting electric vehicle charging points.

The units each have a self-contained, secure yard area.

Unit one will be detached and provide 18,000 sq ft, while units two and three could be let together to form an 89,000 sq ft facility, or separately as two units of around 34,000 and 55,000 sq ft.

Chris Fry, chief executive of Kingsbridge, said: "We are proud to bring forward our greenest ever logistics project, and one of the most environmentally sustainable schemes in the region – a highly sustainable, biodiversity net gain positive development that unlocks this previously underused site’s potential to deliver best-in-class facilities for employment use.

"Ferne Park represents our ongoing commitment to the highest levels of sustainability, meeting demand from businesses across the south in a way that delivers prosperity and environmental benefits to our local communities."
