The company advertised on the side of the warehouse which went up in flames today has spoken out.

The industrial unit on Marine Parade collapsed due to the blaze which began shortly after 1pm.

A stone's throw away from St Mary's Stadium, the fire, huge plumes of smoke and large cordon put up by the emergency services meant that tonight's game against Preston was postponed.

Greenham, a company that manufactures safety and work gear equipment, has its name and company logo plastered across the warehouse.

But speaking to the Echo, a spokesperson from Greenham said that the company vacated the warehouse more than three months ago.

The warehouse and its contents is now no longer attached to Greenham, or its associated businesses, they said.

Greenham told the Echo that the company that now owns the warehouse is Polystar Plastics – who also own a number of other warehouses around the St Mary's area.

The Echo has approached Polystar Plastics for comment.

According to its website, Polystar Plastics is one of the leading polythene manufacturers in the UK.

Products it makes include bags and covers, films and sheeting, shrink film, refuse sacks and products for horticulture and agriculture.
