A driver who was caught 5mph over the speed limit in Southampton has had his disqualification reduced due to the impact on his stepmum.

Alessandro Phimister was clocked at 35mph as he drove along Mousehole Lane in Southampton.

The 36-year-old was driving a Mercedes A200 when he was caught by manned speeding equipment on February 27 last year.

The speed limit on that section of road is 30mph.

Phiminster of Downs Close, Waterlooville pleaded guilty to a single count of speeding on November 16 last year.

He appeared at Southampton Magistrates' Court for sentencing on February 22.

He received three points on his licence and a driving ban of three months.

The disqualification was reduced because the court found there would be exceptional hardship for his stepmother if not.

He was also ordered to pay a £276 fine, court costs of £85 and a £110 surcharge.

This must be paid in full by March 21.
