Pictures show the police cordon after an 'unexploded' device was found in Southampton city centre.
Police were called at 10.20am to report a small piece of 'suspected exploded ordnance' being found during excavations in the area of Cumberland Place in Southampton.
Officers responded to the scene and nearby properties have been evacuated as a precaution, police have confirmed.

The force spokesperson had confirmed the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team would be attending.
However, two and half hours later, around 1pm, the incident was stood down and the cordon lifted, the spokesperson added.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Army has been contacted for more information.
