Police have given an update on why the M271 in Southampton was closed yesterday evening.
The force says it was called at around 5.58pm on Monday (March 18) to reports of concern for the welfare of a woman.
The woman was seen to be on the wrong side of the railings on the M271.

Officers and other emergency services attended and the motorway was closed down for hours.
The woman then came down from the bridge at around 8.32pm and was brought to safety.
The motorway reopened just after 9pm.
