Emergency services attended the Itchen Bridge due to concerns for the welfare of a woman.
Police and ambulance crews were stopped on the bridge at around 6pm yesterday.
Hampshire Constabulary has now confirmed that officers attended after reports of concerns for the welfare of a woman on the bridge.
They were called at 5.58pm.
The woman was brought to safety and into the care of the ambulance team.
Officers left the scene just before 6pm.
Traffic continued to move slowly whilst the incident was ongoing due to one lane being partially blocked.
