A bouncer has been suspended by a city centre nightclub.
The member of door security staff was involved in an altercation with a reveller outside Café Parfait night club on Above Bar Street in Southampton city centre on Friday night.
Bosses at the club have confirmed the member of staff's suspension.
They said the video showing the fight, which has been viewed thousands of times on social media, followed an incident that lasted more than 15 minutes.
The incident involved several door staff and revellers.
The video, which has 26,000 views on Facebook, shows a bouncer punching a clubber, including as he attempts to get up from the ground.
It happened after the person appeared to move towards the bouncer.
Café Parfait owner, Richard Gilbert, has told the Echo that he has taken the decision to suspend the bouncer, pending an investigation.
The nightclub owner said: "Customer safety is our upmost priority and it is clear that the security worker in question used more force than was necessary.
"He has worked for us for three years and we have not encountered an issue until this incident.
"We have 6,000 people through our doors each month and of course the video in question does not show the lead up to the incident.
"Some of those involved had been aggressive to both staff and other customers inside the venue.
"We are in communication with the police and their enquiries, as well as our own, are ongoing."
Richard added that in 17 years of owning Café Parfait he had not experienced an incident such as this until now.
He added: "We have taken the decision to suspend him until the investigations conclude."
Police have said that they are aware of the incident and the enquiries are currently ongoing.
The force has also confirmed that at the present time no arrests have been made.
