A SAINTS fan was taken seriously ill after Tuesday's match against Coventry after collapsing, emergency services have confirmed.
Police officers attended to assist colleagues from Southampton Central Ambulance Service with a medical incident on Britannia Road at 10:24pm.
A Saints fan, described as an elderly man, was taken seriously ill after the match, having collapsed at a bus stop in the area.
Witnesses at the scene have reported emergency service personnel administering CPR and praised their response.
Simon George from West End, who was on his way home having attended the match, said: “The police were very quick to respond. One of the officers was involved straight away in giving CPR to the man.
“You can’t fault the police response; it was very professional and prompt.
“I heard a person say ‘someone has collapsed’ and suddenly six to seven police officers were running to the bus stop. They were very quick.
“Officers were moving people onto the buses to make space in the area. It was a horrible situation.”
A spokesperson for Hampshire Police said: "We were called to assist with a medical incident on Brittania Road at 10.24pm.
"Officers attended to assist our colleagues at Southampton Central Ambulance Service."
South Central Ambulance Service have been contacted for a further update.
Saints had been in Championship action at St Mary's Stadium, beating Coventry City 2-1 in a 7:45pm kick-off.
