It is rare for nightclubs and bars to succeed and stay open for almost two decades, but in 2005, one came along and has done just that.
The Pitcher & Piano at Ocean Village was declared open for business following a successful launch party attended by hundreds of people including Premier League footballer Peter Crouch.
Then-Pitcher & Piano managing director Mike Dowell told the Echo at the time: “We’ve worked long and hard to make sure we develop the perfect bar for Southampton.
“Based on the feedback I have received tonight, and judging by the fantastic atmosphere, it is clear that we have got it right.”
Pitcher & Piano Southampton was the 25th bar to be added to the nationwide group and was the first new site to be developed in five years.
These pictures were taken on the opening night of the long-standing Southampton Bar.
Do you remember when it first opened?
