Above Bar Street during the 1970s was a bustling hub of activity.
The street was lined with a variety of independent shops, department stores and pubs, catering to the needs of locals and tourists alike.
The shopping scene was more diverse compared to today's dominance of chain stores.
Local businesses thrived, offering a unique character to the street. Stores included Snob, Chelsea Girl, Milwards, 2007, Miss Selfridge and Van Allen.
The street was also home to a number of popular pubs and cafes, which served as social gathering places for residents. These included Cadena Cafe, West Park Tavern and - for a short part of the 1970s - Portland Arms.
Above Bar was a lively and vibrant place in the 1970s, and it remains an important part of Southampton's city centre to this very day.
