A man has been charged after a crash close to the Northam Bridge in the early hours of the morning.
Jamie Lee Cross, 28, of Grayling Crescent, Curbridge, has been charged with drink driving, driving without a licence and driving without insurance after the two car crsah on Bitterne Road West at around 2am on Sunday.
The crash caused much of the road near to Northam Bridge to be blocked and as a result the city council diverted drivers to other routes through its Twitter account.
Police attended the incident and arrested a 28-year-old man on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle when alcohol level is above the limit.
Officers also arrested the man on suspicion taking a motor vehicle without the owner’s consent, but he has been released without charge in relation to that offence.
Hampshire Police has said that Cross will appear at Southampton Magistrates Court on May 23.
