A car park has closed to the public as work to deliver a new travel hub in Woolston gets under away.
The work has started on The Colonnade Car Park on Portsmouth Road and is expected to take around nine weeks to complete.
Signs were put up at the entrance of the car park showing that it would be closed from April 22 for eight weeks.
The Woolston Travel Hub, funded through the Department for Transport Transforming Cities fund, will provide access to a range of travel options in one location.
Southampton City Council said the hub will link with Woolston Station and the bus interchange, on Cooper Lane, which leads to the Itchen Bridge.

It will provide more convenient access to sustainable transport for local and inward journeys.
Once completed the works will provide new pedestrian crossings, resurfacing, upgraded lighting, cycle lanes and new wayfinding and real-time public transport information alongside e-bike and e-scooter share, electric vehicle charging points, and car club bays.

During the works, Colonnade Car Park will be closed, and crews will be working between 7am and 5pm each weekday and 7am to 1pm on Saturdays.
The active travel options included will synergise with the Woolston and Itchen Active Travel Zone and Eastern Quietway route – which the council have said will make walking and cycling easier and safer across the area.
This comes after Southern Railway recently announced plans to increase the number of trains calling at Woolston Station on its services from Southampton to Brighton, which comes into effect in June.
Councillor Eamonn Keogh, Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport, said: “The goal for all of our recent improvement works in and around Woolston is to ensure that people have good access to affordable, convenient, and sustainable modes of transport, enabling a genuine choice of how to travel for any one journey.
“We have been working in partnership with local people on a range of improvements to make sustainable travel options more viable for those people that can use them.
“The Woolston Travel Hub is a key part in tying all of the recent improvements together and allowing connected, sustainable journeys locally, across Southampton and beyond.”
