A school has hosted a nostalgic reunion of students from across the decades.

St George Catholic College welcomed back 77 former students and staff for the gathering.

The event was organised in recognition of the school's outstanding Ofsted report from June 2023.

Held in the school hall, the occasion provided a stage for former students to reconnect with old friends from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, as well as reminisce about their school days.

Notably among the attendees were ten ladies from the Class of '66, symbolic of the last cohort of female students before the school transitioned to a boys' institution during the 70s, which continued until 2012 when girls were welcomed back.

Councillor Alex Winning, Southampton City Council Cabinet Member for Children's Services and Learning, who himself is also an alumnus, attended the event.

Councilor Winning said: "Great to be back at my old school and catching up with some of the St George family! A real education success story and a huge transformation over the years!"

James Habberley, headteacher of St George Catholic College, said: "We were thrilled to see such a remarkable turnout at our reunion event.

"It was heart-warming to witness the genuine affection shared among our former staff and students as they revisited their former school."

The event was held on Sunday, April 28.

Last year, the school celebrated getting its first 'Outstanding' Ofsted rating since it opened in 1958.

The Ofsted report praised the culture set by leaders and said staff and pupils are "highly proud" of being part of the school.

It said: “Leaders have established a highly aspirational culture in which pupils want to work hard and achieve well.

“Pupils are supported to do their best by teachers with whom they share warm and respectful relationships. Expectations for behaviour are extremely high, and pupils live up to these."
