A chart-topping Hampshire singer, who clinched a world record for the most gigs in different cities in 24 hours, has said that venue in Southampton is his favourite place to perform.
On Saturday, Singer-songwriter Frank Turner embarked on a challenge to play 15 solo shows, each a minimum of 20 minutes, in 24 hours.
Finishing his last gig at The Brook on Portswood Road in Southampton, the punk and folk singer said the experience was ‘great fun’ but also a ‘gruelling task.’
Speaking to the Echo, the 42-year-old said: “It was a really fun way to promote my new album and what I do – I also really enjoyed finishing off in Southampton.
“I love The Brook it’s a brilliant space to play. Everyone has a great view of the stage and the team there are fantastic.
"It was my favourite venue from the challenge.
“The mood of the night definitely tipped as we got to Kingston - rather than people being out all night drinking, this crowd had just woken up to see me perform at 6am.
“Four very loyal supporters followed me through each city and every time I saw them I asked them if they were starting to regret it yet – I’m very grateful to them.”

The challenge saw him start in Liverpool at 12.30pm on Saturday, before heading to Huddersfield, Leeds, Sheffield, Chesterfield, Nottingham, Birmingham and Leamington Spa.
He continued to Leighton Buzzard, London, Kingston, Aldershot, Portsmouth and Winchester before ending in Southampton.
Turner topped the album charts for the first time with his ninth and most recent offering FTHC in 2022.
The challenge came just as Turner’s latest album ‘Undefeated’ was released and he said the crowd reaction to his newest hits was overwhelmingly good.
Frank added: “My close team have politely requested that I take some time off doing challenges for a while – they certainly didn’t sign up for what I put them through at the weekend.
“I will be in Southampton again at the 1865 in July which I’m flattered to say has completely sold out.
“Southampton has always been a special place for me – I love playing at the Guildhall.
“I remember watching people perform there, I just never imagined I would play on that stage one day myself.”
