Police in Fareham are cracking down on ‘loud and unruly car meets’ that have been making residents' evenings 'miserable'.

Officers are dealing with car meets across the county and police in Fareham have been deterring ‘boy racers’ whose loud cars have been disrupting residents.

The force has said that the antisocial use of vehicles late at night has been on the rise in recent months.

Posting on Facebook, one officer said: “As the weather is getting warmer, there's more reasons to enjoy the lovely British weather.

“Meeting other people with similar interests is a great way to share what we're passionate about and make new friends.

"However recently car enthusiasts have been making residents' evenings miserable.

“Officers have been on patrol in the areas that recently experienced the loud and unruly car meets to make sure everyone can have an easy night before going back to work tomorrow morning.

“One of our officers on patrol is very passionate about his car but he's more passionate about disrupting criminal and anti-social behaviour and we're sad to say that any boy racer cars that saw us tonight quickly moved on.

“Fareham police will continue to monitor the areas over the upcoming weekend.”

This comes as police in Southampton recently dealt with a rise in car meets in Hedge End last month.

One retail park targeted by petrolheads in Hedge End recently installed a barrier to stop drivers from entering the car park late at night.

Police said that since increasing their presence in car meet hotspots, residents of the area had not been disrupted by screeching tyres and noisy engines.
