Police in Gosport have arrested a 21-year-old on suspicion of theft and possession of a machete.
Officers were called to Rydal Road after receiving a report that a man was attempting to get into a property.
Police the Gosport man and said that a machete was located near where the incident took place.
A spokesperson said: "We were called shortly after 2.35am on Wednesday 22 May to a report of a man attempting to gain entry to a property on Rydal Road.
"Officers attended and arrested a 21-year-old man from Gosport on suspicion of theft and possession of an offensive weapon in a public place.
"A machete was seized nearby. The man has been released from police custody on conditional bail pending further enquiries until August 22."
