A college in Hampshire has become the UK's first ‘Gemini AI Academy’.

The recognition given to Barton Peveril Sixth Form College is a first-of-its-kind partnership between the college, C-learning (Google for Education’s largest partner in the UK), and Google.

The concept of the Gemini AI Academy involves a fusion of efforts between C-Learning and select educational institutions worldwide.

Its mission is to provide students with access to state-of-the-art artificial intelligence (AI) resources and technology.

Barton Peveril students will receive the chance to learn about AI, utilise AI tools, and advance their AI skills.

Rob Temple, principal of Barton Peveril, said: "We are extremely excited to be the UK's first ‘Gemini AI Academy.

"The human teacher remains absolutely vital in inspiring and supporting a student, but we know AI will impact on the types of jobs that will be available to students in the future and the kind of skills students should be developing as they progress through the College.

"This agreement puts us in a uniquely strong position to utilise the technology and continue to provide the best possible educational experience for young people.”

Barton Peveril staff will benefit from a variety of AI tools and resources, primely assisting them to produce content innovatively and supporting personalised learning experiences.

Google for Education will conduct training sessions for the staff on how to use AI in the classroom.

Chris Loveday, vice-principal of Barton Peveril, said: "We believe that AI has the potential to transform education.

"AI can help students learn more effectively, efficiently, and engagingly.

"We are excited to be using AI to create a more personalised and effective learning experience for our students."

Dr Jamie Smith, executive chairman of C-Learning, said: "We’re thrilled to be supporting Barton Peveril Sixth Form College with their pioneering work with the Google Gemini AI platform.

"We look forward to sharing more about the impact of this initiative soon".
