In a toast to World Ocean Day on June 8, Southampton's National Oceanography Centre (NOC) will hold its first in-person open day since 2019.

Conveniently, this open day coincides with the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings.

The jam-packed programme promises attendees a hands-on insight into the world of ocean science, with exhibits, talks, and displays ready to intrigue ocean enthusiasts of all ages.

70 per cent of the world's surface is covered in water.

Oceans are vital in shaping our society; they produce oxygen, allow the transport of goods, absorb excess heat and carbon dioxide, and house a staggering 99 per cent of all worldwide digital data traffic.

This year’s open day will explore the interconnected reality of our ocean and its significant impact, while showcasing the latest scientific breakthroughs and technological innovations.

Attendees can meet experts working tirelessly to grapple with ample oceanic issues, ranging from climate change and pollution to habitat loss.
