Residents in a quiet Hampshire village have expressed their shock after the discovery of a woman's body sparked a murder probe.

Police officers were called to Avro Court in Hamble on May 17 by the ambulance service, the Echo revealed today.

Police attended the scene and confirmed a woman in her 50s had died and a 48-year-old man from Hamble was arrested on suspicion of murder.

He has been released on bail until August 16.

Residents of Arvo Court have reacted to the news, with one neighbour saying it made him ‘feel sick.’

A man, who wanted to remain anonymous, said: “We saw it all happening from our window on the day.

“Police came out with evidence bags, and we saw the body being removed – it all got very real in that moment.

“There were so many police here for about three days after the incident. There was an officer guarding the flat the whole time.

“Obviously it's really worrying when something like this happens down your own road. There were at least five police cars here when it first happened.”

Another resident, who has lived in Arvo Court for 20 years, said: “It’s a tiny village and nothing like this happens here. It’s very odd.

“I know some of the people who live here saw some of the police activity, but I saw nothing of the sort.

“We have been here for 20 years, and I haven’t heard of a murder investigation being launched before in the time I have lived here.

“It makes you really worried when it happens in your very road.

"It's terrible and actually makes me feel a bit sick. It's also very sad a woman has died – whatever the circumstances.”

A resident who had moved into Arvo Court in December said: “It’s a hideous thought. We have only been here a couple months and it’s a lovely area.”
