A developer is seeking residents' views on plans to build a 52-bedroom retirement home and two semi-detached dwellings in Boorley Green.

Curdridge-based developer McCarthy Stone wants to build a retirement community on land at Oak Cottage, Winchester Road.

The parcel of land is opposite the Botley Park Hotel & Spa.

McCarthy Stone will include communal facilities, extensive landscaping, and associated parking.

Plans also include a residents' lounge, which leads to a communal garden as well as a hotel-style guest suite and mobility scooter store.

In a letter sent to residents of Boorley Green and Hedge End, the developer said: “It is anticipated that over 65s will increase to around 23 per cent of the overall population in Eastleigh by 2036.

“Therefore, as outlined in the Eastleigh Borough Council's Local Plan, there is a significant need for an increase in specialised accommodation for older people.”

A community consultation programme is now being undertaken for McCarthy Stone to assess the thoughts and feelings of residents.

McCarthy Stone added: “This is to inform local people of the proposals and gather early feedback which, where possible, will be used to inform the plans prior to their submission to Eastleigh Borough Council.”

The company said that all submissions made during the public consultation would need to be made by June 16, 2024.

As previously reported in the Echo, the Boorley Park development is a multi-million-pound vision for 1,400 homes on the outskirts of a Botley.

In January, a planning application for a 70-bed care home in the centre of Boorley Park was submitted to Eastleigh Borough Council.
