A fish and chip shop in Fair Oak has been recognised for its 'high standards' and received a national chip shop award.

Sonny’s Fish & Chips in Fair Oak has been recognised by the National Federation of Fish Friers (NFFF) for its presentation, cleanliness, staff training, equipment, sales skills and most importantly the quality of it's fish and chips.

The chippy has a rating of 4.4 stars out of 5 on Google.

The NFFF are the trade body that represents the nation’s fish and chip shops and aims to reward chip shops raising standards within the fish and chip industry.

To qualify, each shop must go through an inspection by an NFFF Approved Assessor who assesses the shop’s hygiene, presentation, frying sills and more.

Leonard and Ellie Harris are the managers of Sonny’s Fish & Chips, and have been at the helm for five months.

Leonard said: “We are delighted to gain our place in the scheme.

"To be recognised as one of the top fish and chip shops in the country by the NFFF is indeed an honour and a credit to our hardworking staff, who we would like to offer our sincere thanks for the continued hard work and efforts to maintain our excellent reputation."

The NFFF said the accreditation will signal to customers that they can buy with confidence where the award is displayed, and it will encourage more outlets to raise their standards.

Ellie added: "We feel like we have already put our own stamp in the village as the best around for miles, we hope people will give us a try who haven’t visited recently.

"The both of us would personally like to thank all our customers, new and old. The support and encouragement they have offered has been great.

"It has motivated us to maintain our high standards which have been recognised with this accreditation."

NFFF President Andrew Crook said: "Sonny’s Fish & Chips clearly takes pride in where it sources its fish and potatoes from.

"Achieving the NFFF Quality Accreditation provides reassurance to customers that they are being served cooked food using high-quality ingredients."

Each Fish and Chip Quality Accreditation is valid for a year and retention is dependent on standards being maintained as validated by NFFF officials and appointed assessors.
