Harefield Primary School’s Wild Grounds, once plagued by anti-social behaviour, witnessed a clean-up effort by dedicated families and staff on June 8.
The nature reserve, situated across the road from the school, had unfortunately fallen into a state of disrepair.
Approximately thirty volunteers rose to the occasion, clearing out a skipload of rubbish, mending fences and decking, and opening up walkways.
As a result of their hard work, the school children now have access to the reserve for their studies and for understanding the local ecosystem filled with newts, tadpoles and plenty of bugs and woodland creatures.
The school plans to use this space for the Wild Citizens Club as well, giving pupils opportunities to add features to attract more wildlife.
The school is now seeking donations to create bug hotels and nesting boxes, and pond dipping equipment.
Moreover, they are inviting further volunteers in their ongoing endeavour to maintain the reserve.
