Drivers in Bitterne are being advised to approach with caution after a major route faces a week of roadworks.
At the beginning of June, Southampton City Council announced it had secured funding from the Government’s Active Travel Fund to ‘improve the facilities for people walking, wheeling, and cycling’ along Bitterne Road East.
The council has said that the scheme aims to provide an active travel option for local communities connecting them with Bitterne Precinct, local schools and services.
Since Monday, June 3, residents have noticed cones and signs crop up on the busy road a number of times – and today, the road works are back.

Investigations continue on Bitterne Road East today (Mon 17th) for 3 days, with temp traffic signals in place near the entrance of Exleigh Gardens between 9:30am and 3:30pm.
