Motorists have been warned with the M27 set to be hit with more overnight closures.

The works, between junctions 5 and 7, come as part of the ongoing £83 million resurfacing works.

The junction 5 eastbound entry slip road will be closed overnight on June 20 and 21.

The junction 7, Hedge End, eastbound entry and exit slip roads will be closed from June 24 to June 26.

Full overnight closures of the motorway are also set to be put into place at the end of this month from Friday, June 28 until Sunday, June 30.

It comes as part of a two-year £83m project to replace England's concrete road surfaces with asphalt.

A spokesperson for National Highways said: “The M27 junction 5 eastbound entry slip road will be closed overnight on 20 and 21 June 2024, while the M27 junction 7 eastbound entry and exit slip roads will be closed from 24 June to 26 June 2024.

“We also need to complete vegetation clearance, concrete repairs, and additional surveys between junctions 5 and 7 on the eastbound carriageway.

“So we can complete this work we need to close the M27 eastbound carriageway between junctions 5 and 7 from 28 June to 30 June 2024.”

All of the closures listed will take place between 9.00pm to 6.00am the following morning.

National Highways have also published the following diversion route for M27 drivers affected by the overnight closures. 

  • M27 junction 5 eastbound entry slip road – join the M27 travelling westbound towards junction 3. Exit at junction 3 and join the M27 eastbound carriageway.
  • M27 junction 7 eastbound entry slip road – join the M27 travelling westbound towards junction 5. Exit at junction 5 and join the M27 eastbound carriageway.
  • M27 junction 7 eastbound exit slip road – continue along the M27 to junction 8. Exit at junction 8 before joining the M27 westbound carriageway. Leave the M27 via the M27 westbound exit slip road.
  • M27 junction 5 to junction 7 – exit the M27 at junction 5 and follow Wide Lane southbound. Turn left onto the A27 and continue until reaching junction 7. Re-join the M27 eastbound carriageway at junction 7.
