The group arrived at Freemantle Common last night.

Around eight caravans and vehicles have been seen in the Southampton park.

As of 9.30am this morning, the group is yet to be moved on, the council has confirmed.

Southampton City Council said: “The council will be working with partners to complete statutory welfare checks prior to a decision being made as to how to proceed.

“Any reports of criminality or anti-social behaviour should be reported to the police.

“The council will work with partners, including the police and the occupants of the encampment, to resolve this situation and reduce any impact on the community.

“Please report any anti-social behaviour and/or criminality to the police on 101.”

Posting on Facebook last night, Cllr Eammon Keogh said: "The council will visit in the morning and the process to remove the vehicles and caravans will start.

"Hopefully, the group will leave sooner without the need to proceed with the current eviction process."
