Seven homes have been caught in a blaze that has torn through a residential street in Gosport, causing families to flee.

Crews from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service rushed to to Hill Park Road at around 9.40pm last night after a blaze broke out at a three-storey home. 

Flames quickly spread to the roof of seven homes on Hill Park Road and two casualties were treated at the scene for minor injuries. 

Nine adults and four children had to be evacuated from their home while the fire service worked to extinguish the large blaze.

A spokesperson for Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said: "A fire that originated in a domestic three storey dwelling, has since spread through the roof and affected seven neighbouring properties.

"Two casualties have been treated at the scene and released, without needing further treatment. Nine adults and four children have been displaced from the affected properties.

"Four BAs, three Jets and a hose reel jet were in use. There is lots of water runoff due to the number of jets."

Residents of the area are now being advised to keep there doors and windows shut to avoid acrid smoke. 

Taking to Facebook at around 10.30pm last night to warn residents, a spokesperson for Gosport police said: "We are currently dealing with a large residential fire in Hill Park Road in Gosport.

"Please avoid the area whilst we work hard with Hampshire Fire Protection District and South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust to resolve this as quickly as possible.

"To all residents of Gosport please keep your windows and doors closed where reasonable to avoid acrid smoke."
